Would you like your governor  or mayor to proclaim May 2008 as MCS Awareness and Education Month?

If you would like to request one in your state, a simple preaddressed letter is available that you can sign and submit to your governor's office.  The letter is one page in length, direct and to the point.  Letters should be submitted by constituents from within the state.

Sample Proclamation Text


 WHEREAS, people of all ages in (state) have developed multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) as a result of a single massive or chronic low level exposure to toxic chemicals and irritants in the environment; and


WHEREAS, MCS is recognized by the World Health Organization, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Social Security Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as other state and federal government agencies and commissions who support the health and welfare of the chemically injured; and


WHEREAS, MCS is a chronic condition for which there is no known cure; symptoms include chronic fatigue, muscle and join pains, rashes, asthma, headaches, and other respiratory and neurological problems; and


WHEREAS, MCS can cause major financial, employment, learning, health, housing, and social consequences for those who have this disability; and

 

WHEREAS, reasonable accommodations and information about MCS can provide opportunities for people with the disability to enjoy access to school, work, public facilities, and social settings where they can continue to contribute their professional skills, ideas, creativity, abilities, and knowledge; and


WHEREAS; people with MCS need the support and cooperation of family, friends, coworkers, and society as they manage their condition and adapt to a new lifestyle;


NOW THEREFORE, I, (governor name), Governor, of the State of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim May 2007 as:

 

Multiple Chemical Sensitivities Awareness and Education Month


In the State of (state name), and I urge all citizens to support understanding, education, and
research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of MCS.
